Winter Recess reflection

Over this winter break i did what i would normally do on a regular day, except my time wasn't as organized and scheduled as it is when there is school. aside from the weekends, christmas eve/day and new years eve/day i would hang out with friends, watch tv, read stuff, make holiday cards and send them, clean my house, do HW every now and then, but nothing of much importance. and i would repetedly do the same things each day until something of my interest came up. i made myself occupied with things that i really shouldnt have been doing, rather than taking care of what is more important like school work, making up work, college stuff, etc.

On the weekends and on official national holidays i would spend my time with family; family that came over or go and visit family. that was the only time where even some of us got together to celebrate both the birth of jesus and christmas (more so the food and gift-giving of christmas). aside from those days, i realized that none of us really communicated at all, in general whether through email, phone, etc. we rarely communicate but on such holidays we gather together and enjoy the time.

As i talked to people and asked them how their break went, i realized everyone of the people i spoke to had the typical american holiday break. they celebrated with family, friends, partied, drunk a lot of eggnog or alcohol, had lots of fun, put up a christmas tree and wrapped presents, recieved and gave presents, put up christmas lights, etc; were all basically in the american christmas/new years spirit. it also seems like a lot of families that arent really close-nit seem to find an excuse, almost, for getting together and being one because any other of the 361 days of the year would just be to much to handle and they cant just pass by each others homes and say hello, they actually have to be "forced" to get along kind of.

Aside from those things, another thing i noticed was that in the past years christmas and new years have been very lively and hyped up in my neighboorhood. meanwhile this year there were very very few christmas ornaments and decorations on windows, on doorsteps, in lobbys, on doors, etc. not much spirit was visible. on new years normally people would run out and scream and yell when the clock hit midnight and make complete fools of themselves, but this year everything, everything was completly toned down. it was really surprising. i figured such probably occured because of the situation america is in now, mainly the economy, but in all. i think people are starting to realize how fucked up this nation is.

Ebay Assignment

Experience
oh, where do i start.
so i started using ebay the 11th. i didnt ACTUALLY plan to bid on anything at first, in fact i didnt even want to do the assignment because i didnt feel like "wasting" money on something that in the end i might not need, simply for an assignment. later i forced myself to log onto ebay and check it out, see if i liked anything. i had in mind an IDEA of what i would plan to get if i were to do the assignment, and that was solely clothing. a few seconds later i saw several pieces of clothing that i fell in love with and checked them out, an as i did that i was still deliberating if i should buy them or not. i came to the conclusion, or excuse persay, that well hmm its an assignment right ? so i HAVE to get it done. so i decided to, YES fulfill my need and bid on an item. then i bid on two more. then i bid on 3 more. then i bid on four more. that night i won something, but not the item i ORIGIANLLY planned on getting, item A. what happened with item A: i watched it the whole night. at one point i was in the lead, then i was outbid, i was in the lead, etc. when it came down to the wire, 25sec i was still being outbid and tried in the last 2sec to bid higher, but i couldnt and lost damn item A. i got really really frustrated and i guess that led me to bid on other things; having the satisfaction of winning other items and not A. in the process of my addiction that lasted about 2wks, i bought about 5 items. i realized a couple days ago. as i was watching an item on its last day, that i REALLY did not need to spend money i need for other things, on unnecessary things.

Analysis
capitalism comes to play its role in the sense that some people will be willing to pay however much necessary to get what they want, and what that means for the seller/company is more profit. ebay = addiction = more $ for seller (less for consumer).

Walmart Trampling Analysis

What does the walmart article say about the AWOL?

Whenever the Price decreases, demand goes up and because of such sale, people become savages and hunger to get as much of anything and everything they can. What it says about the american way of life is that we are to focused on $$ and $$ and more $$. We’ve become such an advanced, materialistic nation in such a short time. We don’t have our priorities straight. People are prioritizing mere stuff over life. Money you can get back, but a life you cannot. We spend more $$ on unnecessary things than what is REALLY important. On a fundamental level, economically, the american way of life is all about the conquest and not enjoying the ride ‘till the end, and people might like not enjoying it but overall it makes life meaningless.
